Professional dancer resume template

You will especially want to take note of specific skills or qualifications included in the description that you have. To make yourself more marketable, choose the experiences, training and qualifications from your list that are most relevant to the position. For example, if you are applying for a hip-hop dance role, showcase hip-hop training you have taken or your role in a hip-hop music video. Your resume should be no longer than one page to make it easy for the hiring manager to scan.

When auditioning for roles, the top of your resume should also include a professional headshot. Use a standard and easy-to-read font, such as point Times New Roman. You can divide your resume into the following sections: professional experience, training and education, industry-related awards or honors and skills.

List the items within each of these sections in chronological order. Your resume should lead with up-to-date contact information, including your name, address, phone number and email address.

Make your name stand out from the other information by typing it in a bold, slightly larger font. A dance resume is unique because you may also need to add your height, weight and age to this section.

Information about your appearance or age is only necessary when auditioning for roles—for example, you would not include it when applying for a teaching job. Your professional experience section should include any dance companies or groups you were part of and work like performances, commercials and music videos. You can also include teaching or choreography jobs you have held, but more than two or three need a separate section.

Your performance experience should include the name of the show, the company that did it, your role and the dates. You can also choose to include the name of the show's choreographer, especially if they are well known.

If you have a large amount of performing experience, focus on featured roles. If you are at the start of your career, you can include all your performance experience thus far. This section should include the schools or institutions you attended, dates of attendance, styles of dance you learned and degrees or certifications you obtained. If you studied under a well-known teacher or choreographer, include their name as well. Start with the most recent dance training or education and move backward from there.

If you have attended smaller workshops or brief training sessions, only include them if they are related to the position or role. For example, an improv workshop you took last summer might be helpful to highlight for jobs that require acting skills but less necessary for a ballet production. This section should showcase the accolades you have received, which can help set you apart from other candidates.

You can include awards, medals and impressive dance exam scores if you're just starting your career. Remember to keep this section brief, listing only the most relevant or most notable honors.

Established dancers with many accolades should especially follow this rule, while newer dancers with a shorter list may be able to include everything. Tailor this section to the role or production to which you are applying. They reject most. But take heart. In this guide: A sample dance resume better than most.
